If you are considering getting an immigrant visa, the first and most important thing to do, is to be well informed about the details of this process. For that reason, at Clinica Medica Internacional we would like to share some basic details to help ensure a successful progress in this life changing event.

What do you need to know before getting an immigrant visa?

You need to have relatives who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States of America.

They will need to file an I-130 petition at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Once the petition is approved, it will be sent to the National Visa Center (NVC).

Depending on your visa’s category the petition could take months or years to be processed. For that reason it is very important to have updated records for the petitioner and the applicant.

The NVC will contact the applicant regarding the documents needed for the appointment. Once the case is sent to the consulate, the applicant will be notified with a date and time for the appointment, including instructions related to the necessary forms for the interview.

It’s highly important that all your required documentation is organized, completed, and updated to avoid delays in the process. Also, you will need to show the appointment letter from the NVC or from the consulate.

Keep in mind that depending on each case the interview may require one or two days.
